Be The Catalyst You Wish To See In The World.
Catalyst was created to not only impact you, but also impact our planet in a positive way. Our clothes are made and hand-dyed with organic plants.
We use 100% certified untreated organic cotton to support organic farming practices and the benefits it has on our planet. This ensures we start with a pure fabric that is free of GMOs, synthetic fertilizers, and chemical pesticides. Our organic cotton socks and shirts are made in the U.S.A. and hand dyed with organic plants in Southern California.
The natural dyes we use are derived from organic plants that we source or grow ourselves from seed. There is a natural energy and beauty that lives in plant dyes that synthetic dyes will never be able to match, this is because plant color is alive. No one piece is the same or meant to be perfect, because nature can be the same way. Natural colors are complex and full of chromophores which is what distinguishes them from synthetic colors in the sunlight. This complexity makes up the living color within the piece. Understand, living color will change and show its complexities over time, just like the flow of nature.
Catalyst chooses to work with nature, not against it.
By only using organic plant material in our clothing, all of our pieces are biodegradable at the end of their lives. It’s estimated to take 6 months for cotton to biodegrade naturally and over 200 years for synthetic fibers like polyester to decompose. Polyester, along with other synthetic fibers, also release microplastics into the environment causing more plastic pollution for years to come.
Conventional cotton (cotton that relies on pesticides and other chemicals) is also biodegradable, but those harsh chemicals and synthetic dyes will go back into the earth. This is not a sustainable approach.
Catalyst strives to inspire people to be the Catalyst they wish to see in the world. To be a Catalyst for the planet. We believe it’s our responsibility to care for our planet and everyone on it for future generations. Holding businesses accountable is a start. Ask yourself, how will an item you purchase impact the planet? Who is profiting/what type of company would you be supporting with your spending power? Is it organic or synthetic? Where will it end up at the end of its life? We need to ask more questions and find new sustainable solutions.
Catalyst believes in using business as a force of good.
What will you be a Catalyst for ???
